Small town located on the west coast of the island of Basse-Terre which takes its name from the leeward coast of the black rocks that surround it.

Activities 

Beaches
  • Plage Caraïbe
    .Located south of Pointe Noire, this beach has a diving club, a kayak rental, a shell museum. It is also a protected natural site where turtles come to lay their eggs.

  • Plage de Petite Anse
    Ti-Anse beach is a pleasant, shaded and well-protected small beach and a very popular spot for snorkeling and diving. Rich and varied seabed to be explored with mask and snorkel or by snorkeling, day and night, towards deep wrecks or in the middle of schools of fish.
Rivers
  • Rivière Caillou : It is not very crowded but the place is very nice to spend a day with family or friends. Only 30 min walk to reach it
    It’s an aqua-hike of 6 river crossings where the waterfalls offer a nice depth
Monument and Sanctuary
  • Notre dame des Larmes :At the end of the D17, at the place called l’Espérance, at the confluence of the Petite Plaine river and the l’îlet river, is the site of Notre Dame des Larmes. There is an oratory, a place of pilgrimage dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Habitation Côte Sous-le-Vent

Monument and historic site

The Habitation Côte sous le vent welcomes you in a green setting where you will walk in a botanical park. You will have access to a museum of piracy, an exhibition on the arts of wood and the discovery of a butterfly greenhouse.

Saut d’acomat

River

The Saut d’Acomat (or Acomat waterfall) is one of the most remarkable waterfalls in Basse Terre.  Its 9 meters waterfall falls into a large basin in the middle of the rocks, a real bathtub with emerald green water. The site, easily accessible, is frequented by tourists as well as by the inhabitants of the neighboring communes.

La Maison du Cacao

Museum

During your stay, discover the eco-museum La maison du cacao. In the middle of a luxuriant garden, learn about the history of cocoa, its cultivation, the method of processing the bean to obtain the chocolate and its artisanal production.

Park

You will be conquered by this unique concept in Guadeloupe.  The place has several ponds, where ouassous/Caribbean bass, tilapias/Creole mullets are raised.
